IBTA / REFERENCE ESSAY

THE READING ROOM

Ask for a source-led correction

Make the passage, the question and the supporting reference easy to review together.

01

Identify the exact passage

Include the page address, the words or claim you want reviewed and the reason the point matters. Distinguish a factual correction from a different interpretation or a request for more context. A precise request gives the editor a clearer starting point than a broad objection.

02

Bring the supporting source

Point to the original creator, responsible organisation or primary reference where possible. Explain what it establishes and which part of the published passage it affects. Do not replace one unsupported account with another or present an incomplete excerpt as the whole source.

03

Respect privacy and contribution rights

Keep personal records, private client information and material you cannot authorise out of a general correction enquiry. If a concern involves restricted material or permissions, ask the responsible editor for the appropriate channel before sending supporting documentation.

04

Confirm the review arrangement

The owner must appoint the editorial responsibility and publish the actual corrections process. This frontend prepares a private enquiry only; it does not submit a tracked case, guarantee a response time or silently alter a publication. Keep any agreed correction and its source distinguishable from the original account.
